The Saitama Prefectural Education Center will open its doors to the public with the Parents and Children Learning Festival on Saturday December 10, from 9:30 to 15:00. Japanese Cypress Benches -
Gifts from Chichibu Agricultural Science High School   
Heisei 24 February 1

The Saitama Prefectural Education Center was presented with two benches made from Japanese cypress from Chichibu Agricultural Science High School. The benches were made by 3rd year students of the Forestry Science Department. This department makes benches from Japanese cypress used for school projects, and they have been kindly donating to a variety of places. In class that made these benches, the students wanted to create a one-of-a-kind bench that would benefit many people. 
                          

                                                

When you visit the education center, please take the time to look at the hard work of the students from Chichibu Agricultural Science High School. The benches are located at the entrance to the bus rotary.

Heisei 23 CoREF-Saitama Prefecture - Prefectural High School Grade Up Project Debriefing

Each and Every Student Shines
- An Outlook on 2 Years of Collaborative Learning -

The Prefectural High School Grade Up Project Debriefing was held on Saturday, January 21 2012 at Toda Municipal Bunkakaikan. 428 people from Saitama and outside the prefecture participated. With cooperation from CoREF (Consortium for Renovating Education of the Future), the project aims to improve leadership skills through practical lessons based on collaborative learning theory. Over the past 2 years, 67 prefectural high school teachers have advanced student-centered learning activites.

Let's Learn Cutting-Edge Science!
Tokyo Metropolitan Area Science Teacher Workshop in RIKEN

The Heisei 23 Let's Learn Cutting-Edge Science! Tokyo Metropolitan Area Science Teacher Workshop in RIKEN was held on Thursday, January 5. This workshop is held every year at RIKEN Headquaters in Wako City. The aim of the workshop is to improve the qualifications of participating teachers together with building on experience with future science and mathematics education by experiencing first-hand cutting-edge research. A total of 63 people from each prefecture in Kanto participated. Thanks to RIKEN, the workshop was a success with participants greeted by RIKEN President Ryoji Noyori, lecture by the Advanced Science Institute's Green Nanocatalysis Research Team Deputy Team Leader, Yoichi Yamada, and a tour of the facilities.

Education Center Investigative Study-related News

Selling Begins of Soka Sembei Designed by High School Students in Internet Business Class

Students from Iwatsuki Commercial High School in cooperation with Rakuten staff and well-known local sembei manufacturer, Horiru, have begun selling their own Soka Sembei by mail order on Rakuten. Iwatsuki Commercial High School is taking part in the Heisei 23 CMS-based Education Support Study.

Students took part in the Learn from a Leading Business; Rakuten IT School Internet Business for High School Students, and designed their products and are now selling them online with guidance from cooperating businesses.

These products will be on sale from December 7, 2011 to until March 31, 2012.

Prefectural Special Needs School Hanyu Fuji Senior High School Gardening Prac

Second year students from the Agriculture Technology Gardening Course did some gardening prac at the education center. Everyone studies everyday and take part in the cultivation of the flowers and plants, and selling them inside and outside of school. As part of their off-campus gardening activites, they prepared a flower bed by plating some seedlings.

 


Everyone worked well in the pleasant weather in setting up the flower bed.





Please take a look at all the effort the students of Hanyu Fuji Senior High School put into the flower bed the next time you visit the center.

Gyoda City Facilities Tour - Saitama Prefectural Education Center

Parents and children visited the Saitama Prefectural Education Center on the Gyoda City Facilities Tour sponsored by the Gyoda City Government's Public Information Division.

Areas covered in the facilities tour included:

  •  Large Seminar Hall - Reference Room, Special Display Booth, JICA Exhibit, National Musuem of Emerging Science and Innovation's 'Future Pass'.
  • 3D Research Room - Dagik Earth (3D Contents: Mitaka, DSV Shinkai 6500).

Participants, children ranging from kindergarten to year 6 of elementary school, braved the hot summer's day and enthusiastically took part in the tour. Thank you very much.

CMS-based Learning Support

'What is Calculation?' Outcomes Presentation

Under the Heisei 23 research enterprise CMS-based Learning Support, the 'What is Calculation?' Outcomes Presentation was held in the Large Training Hall at the main branch of the Saitama Prefectural Education Center. Students from Kumagaya High School and Kumagaya Girls' High School presented some of their work. Students were chosen to represent their schools and had the opportunity to present their work in front of mathematicians. Students presented on stage using Power Point and explained their research to the audience. After the student presentations, Ms. Noriko Arai from the National Institute of Infomatics gave a speech and presented awards to the students. Over 130 people attended the event.

National Teachers Federation of Japan Conference (Saitama)

 

The Heisei 23 National Teachers Federation of Japan Curriculum Research Conference was held on September 8 and 9 at Hotel Brilliante Musashino (Saitama City) and a great number of participants attended from all over the country.

On Day 1 the Head of the National Institute for Educational Policy, Mr. Yasushi Tokunaga, gave the keynote speech entitled 'How to Nuture Physical and Interllectual Ability in a Globalised Society'. The Director of the School Curriculum Division (MEXT), Mr. Masashi Kajiyama, gave a speech entitled 'The Current State of Learning Evaluation of School Children'. A special lecture by the Consortium for Renovating Education of the Future's (CoREF) Deputy Director, Ms. Nahomi Miyake, was also given.

On Day 2 the 'Improving the Leadership Skills of Teachers' Consultants' and 'Approaching the New Educational Guidelines' were the themes of two subcommittees. Representatives then reported on their findings. In group consultation, ideas and opinions were exchanged using collaborative learning techniques such as the Jigsaw Method. Everyone actively participated in the conference.

Yay! We did it!
On June 5, the Center held its "Yay! You did it!" Gymnastics Class under the instruction of Athens gold medalist Takefumi Kashima. Kids spent the afternoon mastering their most challenging gymnastics events.

A message from the Global Warming Prevention Division: The Education Center has instituted "Cool Biz" summer dress code facility-wide. The center invites all seminar participants to dress in "Cool Biz" attire. ("Cool Biz" means short sleeves, no necktie, no jacket, and/or to be flexible about dressing in accordance with weather conditions).


May 17, 2011 smileys:
Applications are now open for the Saitama Sports Day "Yay! You did it!" Gymnastics class. The event will be held on Sunday, June 5 with registration beginning at 1:15pm. See this page for details and click here to apply (both Japanese only). NOTE: applications for the horizontal bars are now closed. There is still room in the vaulting horse and floor exercise programs. The vaulting horse program will include the front somersault technique.

The Education Center will be holding a "Yay! You did it!" Gymnastics class on Saitama Sports Day. Children-only applications will begin Tuesday, May 17 starting at 9am.
